SUMMARY:Fantasy Book Club - Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
DESCRIPTION:Fantasy Book Club is heading in a whole new direction\, this time\, to space! Please join us for our exploration of Project Hail Mary for our April pick. \n\n\n\nCLICK HERE TO RESERVE YOUR SEAT  \nRyland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate\, last-chance mission—and if he fails\, humanity and the earth itself will perish. \n\n\nExcept that right now\, he doesn’t know that. He can’t even remember his own name\, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. \nAll he knows is that he’s been asleep for a very\, very long time. And he’s just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home\, with nothing but two corpses for company. \nHis crewmates dead\, his memories fuzzily returning\, Ryland realizes that an impossible task now confronts him. Hurtling through space on this tiny ship\, it’s up to him to puzzle out an impossible scientific mystery—and conquer an extinction-level threat to our species. \nAnd with the clock ticking down and the nearest human being light-years away\, he’s got to do it all alone. \nOr does he? \nAn irresistible interstellar adventure as only Andy Weir could deliver\, Project Hail Mary is a tale of discovery\, speculation\, and survival to rival The Martian—while taking us to places it never dreamed of going.

SUMMARY:Book Launch Event: Via Luino - All the Scattered Stars
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the launch of Via Luino’s debut book All the Scattered Stars\, a young adult fantasy. \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER Admission is free with an option to prepay and reserve your copy. \n\nThe glitter of Venice’s lights hides a dark truth: when the floodwaters rise\, no one is safe.  Koru knows better than to trust anyone but her own.  Hidden deep in the winding twists of Venice’s narrow alleys\, Koru and her found family must disguise themselves to survive. \n\n\nThey are Rhunlokni\, an ethnic minority gifted with the ability to channel the power of the Earth\, their Goddess.  They have long been vilified and prosecuted for their strange abilities– and Koru’s gift is the strongest of her generation. \nSo when the police arrive in St. Mark’s Square to arrest Koru for a crime she didn’t commit\, she does the only thing she can– she runs.  Though Koru manages to escape the police\, a larger threat is drawing near.  Koru must figure out what the Goddess is trying to tell her\, protect those she loves\, and uncover the truth of her past before it’s too late– because Venice is sinking.  Tonight. \n———— \nRaised in the wilds of Western Massachusetts\, Via Luino is the author of over 25 published short stories and poems and has been a Pushcart Prize nominee. She holds an MFA in fiction writing from the University of New Hampshire and has worked as an English teacher overseas. She is now a youth services librarian by day and an avid reader and writer of all kinds of fantasy by night. She lives just north of Boston with her spouse and their two dogs\, an elderly seeing-eye dog flunky and a spry young rescue. All the Scattered Stars is her debut novel. \nColby Daniel is a kindergarten teacher with 14 years of experience creating inclusive\, engaging classrooms where every child feels seen and supported. He holds a master’s degree in Community Engagement and DEI\, which shapes his commitment to building welcoming spaces in and beyond the classroom. Outside of school\, Colby runs a vibrant Bookstagram and organizes book clubs and literary events that bring readers together. He often shares insights on living with ADHD and his experience receiving a kidney transplant\, using both as sources of strength and connection. Colby is currently working on an original writing project\, continuing his passion for storytelling.

SUMMARY:Fiction Book Club - Is This A Cry for Help? by Emily Austin
DESCRIPTION:Best selling author\, Emily Austin\, returns for our April Fiction Book Club Selection. \nCLICK HERE TO RESERVE YOUR SEAT \n\n\n\n\nEmily Austin\, the bestselling “queen of darkly quirky\, endearingly flawed heroines” (Sarah Haywood\, author of The Cactus)\, returns with a luminous new novel following a librarian who comes back to work after a mental breakdown only to confront book-banning crusaders in an empowering story of grief\, love\, and the power of libraries. \nDarcy’s life turned out better than she could have ever imagined. She is a librarian at the local branch\, while her wife Joy runs a book binding service. Between the two of them\, there is no more room on their shelves with their ample book collections\, various knickknacks and bobbles\, and dried bouquets. Rounding out their ideal life is two cats and a sun-soaked house by the lake. \nBut when Darcy receives the news that her ex-boyfriend\, Ben\, has passed away\, she spirals into a pit of guilt and regret\, resulting in a mental breakdown and medical leave from the library. When she returns to work\, she is met by unrest in her community and protests surrounding intellectual freedom\, resulting in a call for book bans and a second look at the branch’s upcoming DEI programs. \nThrough the support of her community\, colleagues\, and the personal growth that results from examining her previous relationships\, Darcy comes into her own agency and the truest version of herself. Is This a Cry for Help? not only offers a moving portrait of queer life after coming of age but also powerfully explores questions about sexuality\, community\, and the importance of libraries.
