Part of our mission is to promote curiosity and a love of learning about the world around us. With that comes a desire to find new books and new creations that we love, that astound us, that make us think, that make us feel, and that leave us wanting more.

We aspire to be known as a place that shares local talent and keeps local creativity alive amidst the big box stores and algorithmically generated experiences. We want to showcase the works of authors and artisans from the Merrimack Valley and surrounding area.

Consignment Guidelines

We love independent authors and artisans at The Purple Couch and want everybody to have the best experience they can. With that in mind, we have a few policies to make sure that each book and creation gets fair treatment while making sure that the store is the sort of place that can sell them. And while we love to sell books from all over the world, please be aware our consignment policy prioritizes the authors in our local community.

General Consignment

While we would love to carry every book or gift forever and ever, space is finite and inventory needs to rotate. The Purple Couch charges a non-refundable $25 stocking fee for 6 months per item.

The Purple Couch consignment charge is 60% of cover price per unit, paid to the author/creator after items are sold, with accountings as appropriate. If an item sells 5 or more units, the stocking fee will be refunded.

Authors/Artisans must provide contact information, including name, phone and email using the form below. Authors/Artisans are responsible for all promotions and marketing. Authors/Artisans are responsible for unsold merchandise. Unsold merchandise will be returned or recycled after the consignment period.

Independently published authors must be available through Ingram. While we understand the motivations for authors to publish with Amazon, they actively work to put stores like ours out of business. We will not carry books printed or published through Amazon or any of their imprints (KDP, CreateSpace, etc.).

Due to the high volume of consignment requests we ask that you fill out the questionnaire below. If your book or creation is a good fit for us, we will reach out with more information. If you drop off promotional items, please fill out the form so that they don’t get lost in the shuffle. These promotional items will not be factored into consignment calculations.

Event Consignment

The Purple Couch is a busy place, and our calendar fills up quickly, often months in advance. Because of this, the timing of events and available dates are up to the discretion of the Purple Couch staff. Event fees are $100 per hour.

For authors selling their book at a Purple Couch event, we will consign your works for 60% of the cover price per unit. The author is expected to obtain and arrive with enough books for the expected attendance. Event consignments will be taken before the event and settled at the end of the event.

While The Purple Couch does promote all of our events, including a mention in our monthly newsletter and a post on our social media, authors are expected to publicize and promote their own events.
